The Black Widow strikes again

Posted by Picasa
I have been sitting here surfing the internet looking for something interesting to share with all of you. In my attempt to be more happy and diversified, I have decided to avoid some of the stories now making their rounds in the media that really got me fired up. After all, nobody probably cares anyway. So, tonight we will not be firing off on the head of the NAACP who said that Republicans are Nazis. We will not be discussing the now infamous cartoons of Muhammad, and we will NOT be talking about the now senile Jimmy Carter who claims that we need to give poor old Hamas a chance. Tonight we will be talking about Sonja Thomas...pictured above.

Many of you have heard of Kobayashi, the skinny Japanese guy who regularly eats 50 hot dogs every summer at the Nathans hot dog eating festival at Coney Island. The guy weighs about 150 pounds and this year he won again by eating 49 hot dogs (and buns) in 12 minutes. Yes, that is a correct number...I said 49 hot dogs. Actually, he is slacking off because a year or two ago he ate 53. The great thing about Kobayashi is that he out-eats these big 300 and 400 pound guys, which makes me laugh.

That brings us back to ol' Sonja. Sonja is known in the world of competitive eating as the Black Widow. I'm not kidding here...there is an actual federation called the International Federation of Competitive Eating out there. Now, Sonja is no slouch. She actually finished second this year to Kobayashi at Coney by downing 37 hot dogs. The above picture was taken yesterday, when Sonja won a competition by downing 26 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes. This seems like an amazing feat to me, but when you realize that Sonja only weighs about 100 pounds, it's even more impressive. Congrats to Sonja on her win. In case you want to see some really SICK records, here is the link to the IFOCE records page showing the current world records. Try not to puke.

That is disgusting. However, I think that Princess T could give Eric Booker (2 lbs of chocolate candy bars in 6 minutes) a run for his money.
