A True Hoops Hero

Posted by Picasa
Above is a picture of Jason McElwain, who is a senior at Athena High School in New York. For those of you who saw the great highlights on Sportscenter this morning, you know where I am going. For the rest of you (even if you are not sports fans), please read on.

Last Wednesday Night, Jason scored 20 points on "Senior Night", which was his high school's final home basketball game of the season. Before that night, Jason had never played a single minute of high-school basketball. Jason was actually the student trainer for the team. During his three years at Athena, Jason had not missed a single game or a practice with the team. Due to his dedication, the head coach told him he could suit up for the team's last game.

With four minutes left in the game, Jason got the call. In those four minutes, Jason proceeded to step up and make six three-pointers. This is a pretty amazing accomplishment for anyone who regularly plays basketball. It's unbeleivable when you realize that Jason is autistic.

Rarely do I get choked up on anything, but this one did it for me. In today's society of multi-millionaire, complaining professional athletes, it is good to know that an amazing and couageous young man can steal the spotlight, even if only for a short while. The Margarita Lounge sends all our heartfelt congratulations on a job well done Jason.
